Release Info:
The River That Talks is a beautifully produced bootleg presented in a gatefold sleeve and containing two 7inch, 45 rpm vinyl records featuring four outtakes from The River.
The front cover displays a striking photograph of Bruce, while the back is a clean white layout listing the track titles.
Opening the gatefold reveals the lyrics to all four songs printed against a light blue background.
Each vinyl label carries the Shell Motor Oil Company logo, with the song title engraved on its respective side.
The first edition was intended as a promotional run of 100 hand numbered copies on red vinyl, each accompanied by a printed card with handwritten numbering. Before release, however, the bootleggers changed course: they replaced the handwritten numbers with a blue ink stamp, keeping the first 20 handwritten copies for themselves and close friends as a kind of advance promo.
Once finalised, 100 stamped, red vinyl copies were issued—extremely scarce today and highly sought after by collectors. A later pressing of 1,600 numbered copies on black vinyl followed.
