Release Info:
"Kemper Arena, Kansas City, Kansas, November 19, 1984", also called "Kansas City", is another legendary boot.
The original idea from the bootleg label was to release this boot with a sleeve a little larger than normal to contain all 5 LPs of the show, with green labels, with image and titles, for all the various "A" sides, and red labels for all the various sides "B" sides, except one, the "B" side of the last vinyl which is instead white with an image, but no titles as the side is not engraved.
The labels were made by hand, then photocopied onto coloured sheets and die-cutting them one at a time. Inside there was also a gorgeous glossy laminated insert with a live image of Bruce.
At this point they realised that the production was very long, the cost of the material, especially for the covers and the insert, was quite expensive, so they decided to break the release into two volumes. "Kemper Arena, Kansas City, Kansas, November 19, 1984 (Part 1)" which included the first two LPs, and "Kemper Arena, Kansas City, Kansas, November 19, 1984 (Part 2)" which included the three remaining LPs.
Part 1 has an anonymous white cover with a photocopied insert on light yellow paper, which wraps the cover, with the image of the old insert on the front, the typed titles, and underneath the image of the back cover, of the official single "Cover Me/Jersey Girl" on the back.
Part 2, also has an anonymous white cover, with an insert on the front, photocopied on white paper, with the image of the cover that must have been there originally, and on the right a white band with the typed titles.
Both parts are produced on black vinyl with anonymous white labels with "Side A" and "Side B" printed on.
Later, with the photographic material prepared, and the labels already die-cut, ready to put the original idea into practice, they decided to make a limited edition box of 19 numbered copies, each with a different photograph glued on the lid, a booklet of 4 pages photocopied on green sheets with numbering stamp, and a padlock engraved with "BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN" on the front, and the same numbering written on the back with a black marker.
A twentieth copy is the test copy, with white labels printed with "Side A" and "Side B", in a larger cover suitable for containing all 5 LPs, inside the white envelopes together with the LPs are inserted also colourful labels with photos and titles.
In some boxes it is also possible to find a sheet with presumably false discographic addresses written on it, or/and the two posters of Bruce's caricature (certainly advanced), normally included in the limited edition boot box set "Live In Jack Murphy Center Murfreesboro, TNN December 9, 1984".
Given the success achieved, and the numerous requests for this boot, the producers decided to create a new version, this time giving a production label "Juke-Box Records - London" and pressing onto coloured vinyl instead of black.
They were thinking of alternating yellow and green vinyl, with 5 white covers printed with a large b/w image, and a circle with the vinyl number on the front, on the back, the boot title "Kansas - Live In Kansas City - Kemper Arena 11-19-1984", the titles of the songs and a small image always in b/w.
On the vinyl there are anonymous black labels on "Side A" and anonymous white labels on "Side B", after having trying alternating the vinyl colour, they made the decision to make all the vinyl records yellow, and to make a limited edition box with the insert glued in the centre of the lid with a black and white photo and a round red sticker reading "LIMITED EDITION - 100 COPIES", behind, another lemon yellow insert, glued in the centre with the title of the boot and the various songs present on each side of the vinyl.
For this box set they also changed the title to "Live In Kansas City - Kemper Arena 11-19-1984" and also recorded the "B" side of the fifth LP, putting the "B Side" of the first picture disc of the boot "Live In Jack Murphy Center Murfreesboro, TNN December 9, 1984” (TNN Records - Box-Set) Picture Disc.
Some copies were prepared with the 5 white covers printed, as TEST PRESSING, the precise number is not known, but very few, which were then sold, but separately as single vinyl record.
Only the first test copy has one green vinyl, all other copies have all yellow vinyl.
Other copies of the first part of the show were later repressed, using the same original plates used for any other version of this boot, but with an anonymous white sleeve with a photocopy of the poster glued to the front that was to be included in the first project, with a white band top left with the title "Kemper Arena, Kansas City, Missouri, Nov. 19, 1984 (Part One)" and the songs on the two LPs.
